Rails-2.0 is here!

Updated Dec 10 at 05:13 CDT (first posted Dec 7 at 12:18 CDT) by Remi in Rails  - 10 comment(s)

The highly anticipated Rails-2.0 has just been released

It's only minutes since the first Rails-2.0 bugfix version was released (2.0.1) and I'm happy to say that we've already added it to our one-click installer :)

Rails-2.0 is the result of many months of hard work and it contains tons of improvements, which you can view at the official Rails blog

But that's not all... To celebrate the release of Rails-two-o we're offering a 50% discount for one year to any new customer signing up in the next two weeks with the promo code RAILS20. If you combine that with our new unlimited plans I think you've got a pretty good deal ...

Update: Just to be clear, here are the conditions for this promo code:

  • Two weeks only: The final day to signup with the promo code is December 21st
  • Limited to Rails signups
  • One-year payment required

I signed up with you guys in the first place because I noticed you'd added Rails 1.2 within minutes of its launch. And here you go again with 2.0 :-)

This is great! As ever, thanks so much for the amazing service.

Wow, you guys are fast!
I just got myself a plan 2 for one year

ok, I think that my sense of timing is not so good, as I've signed up about five days ago... at least I can enjoy an unexpected unlimited plan :)

Well, poop. I signed up only two days ago, and I get to pay twice as much for the privelege?

Sigh.

A little kickback for those who signed in the week prior might be nice. I just got the keys for two new accounts, one for home and one for work! ;)

Hi,
I have no plans to use Rails on WebFaction. I will use Drupal, WordPress and Django instead. Can I sign up using the RAILS20 promo code?

You say "One-year payment required". I would like to make a two-years payment. Can I use the RAILS20 promo code to get a 50% discount for the first year (in practice I will pay 18 months)?

I'm afraid not, the RAILS20 promotion is only for new Rails customers that pay for a year in advance. If you decide to use Rails and you would like to pay for two years in advance then you can pay for the second year once you've received your welcome e-mail and have access to the control panel.

Hope it helps. :)

So if I sign up with the coupon, then really only use Django, is that okay? Or do I have to promise to only install Rails apps?

While you are free to set whatever condition for your promo codes, I have to say the Rails signup condition is really unusual and hard to enforce. Also the "One-year payment required" condition is confusing at best: you should apply the discount also to two-years payments (of course the 50% discount should apply only to the first year). You should advertise your next promo codes in a more direct way: "buy a year and get 3 months free; buy two years and get 6 months free". Just my 2 cents.

Too bad I came late... I will be with dreamhost for a while then... :(

Btw. What setup do you use for your servers?
