Welcome to the very first WebFaction newsletter !

As you may have noticed WebFaction took a great leap forward today:

We rolled out our brand new website but most importantly we upgraded all of our plans so that you can host more websites and bigger ones in a given plan:

  • No more limits on the number of applications, websites, e-mails and databases in our plans. The only limits are now diskspace, bandwidth, memory and cpu limits

  • More bandwidth and diskspace for each plan: we've doubled our diskspace and tripled our bandwidth

  • More memory for each plan: we've added 20MB of memory to each plan
WebFaction

But these improvements are just the beginning ... Over the next few months we're going to gradually improve our platform while keeping the things that you like: one-click installers, applications/websites flexibility, helpful support. Things that we have on our plate include:

  • Control panel improvements: no more slowdown at peak time, easier application/website configuration, easier mailboxes/email configuration

  • Documentation: more documentation, especially for people just getting started with our system

  • Payment system: we're working on our own payment system which means you won't have to enter your card details every time you buy new services

  • Domains and certificates: we know it's a pain to have to go elsewhere to buy these so soon you'll be able to buy them directly from our site :)

  • Server setup: we're constantly tweaking our server setup: adding new software, new versions, tweaking apache, improving our watchdogs to keep our servers fast and stable

These are just a few of the improvements that we have in store. The next year is going to be a busy one for WebFaction !

Wow - this is great! I just tried to add a new application to what was a full account and, sure enough, the control panel let me. I can't tell you how nice that is! The new front page looks really sharp too.

You guys do such a good job!

:-)

More bandwidth/diskspace/RAM, no more limits on the number of applications, websites...

Simply wonderful!

Thanks

Great news! Expect a lot of my friends to signup in the next few days...

This is fantastic, I've been hosting a lot of "second tier" websites over at Dreamhost because of the website limits before. But now that Webfaction is supporting unlimited websites, I think I'm gonna be migrating them to webfaction.

Great news!! Keep up the good work.

One minor suggestion though. Could you put a link (or even a form) for LOGIN directly on the homepage? It took me a good minute to find the regular login hidden inside the "Support" tab.

w00t! Webfaction keeps getting better and better.

I can't wait for the domain name registartion and ssl certificate registration.

Is there an ETA on those?

Thank you, this is awesome!

Have you found a solution for 16 char limit in databasenames?

Cool, this is a great upgrade. I kept having to watch my app-limit when adding static-links and memcached instances - not any more though!
It is great to see that you keep growing the service - ShowMeDo is very happy with both your plans and your support.
Cheers!
Ian.

Stefan: I think that (Username)_(Database Name) is the best solution aside from MySQL allowing its database names to be longer.

Great job guys! The site looks great and the upgrades are fantastic. I didn't think WebFaction could get any better, but it just did. Thanks for your outstanding service and passion to constantly improve what you do.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! WebFaction is by far the best web hosting company I've ever used!

This is great news!

Webfaction is the best web hosting company I've used for Python hosting.

I have been a happy user (professional app hosting) of WF for more than 6 months now.

With unlimited hosting, I can think of moving my personal sites also to WebFaction.

Howerver, I'm a little concerned that, by allowing for unlimited sites, the service might slow down....

Pradeep: Even though websites are unlimited bandwidth, CPU, and memory aren't so you don't have anything to worry about. :)

Wow, this really made my day! And I love the new site too.

Upgrade? That's great, but WHY???

You guys were already the best deal around... there wasn't even a need to upgrade.

I'm not complaining, though. ;)

Unlimited number of long-running processes really makes my day.

Thanks a lot for all your messages ! Looks like the unlimited domains, sites and apps are a hit ... along with the new site :)

Here are some answers to the questions so far:

"Could you put a link (or even a form) for LOGIN directly on the homepage?":

Well, there is a link to login. It's the "support" button and on the next page you can enter your login/password. We're a bit reluctant to put the login form directly on the home page as it might mess up our nice design a bit ;) We'll have a go though and see what it looks like.

"I can't wait for the domain name registartion and ssl certificate registration. Is there an ETA on those?":

I've learned to not give specific ETAs anymore since we (and everybody else) usually don't meet them ... Right now we're working on the new payment system. Once that's done we'll do the domains and certificates purchase.

"Howerver, I'm a little concerned that, by allowing for unlimited sites, the service might slow down":

This is something that we've considered carefully before we made the decision to lift the limits. You still have diskspace, bandwidth and memory limits and since we carefully monitor the CPU used by all processes our servers should remain as fast as they are.

Remi.

Remi,
Thanks for the clarification. I'm sure you would have considered the ramifications of lifting the limits.

Overall, this is a Very Good Thing :)
